This morning I’m sitting in full view of the gorgeous Willamette River, watching ducks and geese and the occasional osprey make the most of this gorgeous morning. AK Fam decided late last night that we needed to make a trip to Hood River, about 80 miles east of Portland along the mighty Columbia River. The snow seems to be slowly melting away from this 4-season hamlet and funky skier/windsurfer paradise, and we have itchy feet. So, off we go, but not before we follow up on a few items from yesterday’s great Alaska Travelgram Show with my lonely host, Scott McMurren.
We had a great time chatting with Trista from Grande Denali Lodge, high above the glittering gulch of, well, Glitter Gulch, at the entrance to Denali National Park. A simply gorgeous lodge, Grande Denali has some specials going on and we would be remiss not to make a special note. Trista says to access the website, click on the “view specials” tab, and enter the code “BEAR” for 20% off a room. Like under a $100 kind of special. Trista also said that the Grande Denali Lodge will remain open late this 2011 season for the lucky NPS Road Lottery winners, and AK Fam is all over that. Lottery applications begin in June and the road is open to winners in September, so make plans now to stay at the Grande Denali and for a little luxury after driving the Road.
I also mentioned during a discussion of the museums AK Fam has visited on our Spring Break 2011 expedition that the Anchorage Museum participates in the Science Super Ticket program, offering deep discounts to members at science-based facilities all over the Lower 48 and even overseas. Click HERE for the link to the Anchorage Museum’s member page for full details. Great deal, great learning. Can’t beat it.
Happy Wild Wednesday, AKontheGO’ers, and continue to enjoy the beautiful sunshine!
