Time for Un-Cruise Adventures: Kids in Nature and AKontheGO team up again

2013 guests aboard Un-Cruise vessel Safari Endeavor work on name tags.

My living room floor is littered with craft supplies, rain gear, and the dark blue uniforms of Un-Cruise Adventures. It’s time for my annual trek to Southeast Alaska and another session aboard my favorite small ship cruise line.

Un-Cruise Adventures, with sailings in Alaska, Hawai’i, Baja California, and Washington, strives to be a different experience from the usual concept of ‘cruising’, hence the catchy name. In 2013 I was the fortunate beneficiary of a pitch made after my first sailing as a passenger in 2012; offering to expand already fabulous programming for the 50+ guests aboard the Un-Cruise fleet, specifically toward the youngest passengers.

Keeping time with rhythm sticks at Chief Shakes House in Wrangell.

Last summer’s success has led to three weeks aboard the Wilderness Adventurer as she sails between Juneau and Ketchikan, exploring hidden places and wild spaces of Southeast Alaska in a quest to ensure my youngest charges know more about Alaska, the people, culture, and outdoor fun than when they stepped aboard a week earlier.

Ice, ice, ice! It's nice.

Kids in Nature! The girls won the sand creation contest. Go girl power!

So, dear AKontheGO’ers, tomorrow morning I shall step briefly away from the blog, save for a few posts here and there. I think it’s a healthy, productive choice, but one I hope will retain my readership, because it is y’all who keep me going.

Wilderness Adventurer (WAV), ready for a day of exploring with Un-Cruise!

I’ll return as I can, and where I find internet, but in the meantime, keep exploring our wonderful state.

AK Mom will catch you on the flip side of Alaska.
