The Magic Kingdom Heads North with Disney Cruise Line

Mickey, Minnie, and the whole gang are donning their best in Last Frontier gear and heading north in 2011, as Disney Cruise Line sets sail for Alaska. Not to be outdone by their successful counterparts like Holland America, Princess, and Norweigan Cruise Line, Disney is adding Alaska to their ports of call during a four-month, eighteen-cruise slate of trips to the 49th State.

The line’s seven-night sailings will depart from Vancouver, B.C. and visit such southeast Alaskan towns as Juneau, Ketchikan, and Skagway, and of course provide guests with stunning views from the ship, as AK Fam found out on our earlier cruise aboard a Holland America cruise this summer. Beginning May 3, 2011, guests will be able to sail for around $939, double occupancy, for an inside cabin and all the bells and whistles Disney prides itself on providing to each and every guest.

The ship, Disney Wonder, is adding the Outlook Cafe’ on the top deck to further entice passengers towards that fabulous vista view; and perhaps give moms and dads a little time to themselves, something Disney Cruise Line makes sure all parents are aware of before booking. They are all about kids, but recognize the value of almost-constant children’s programs to keep the whole family happy.

Shore excursion itineraries are still in the works; attempts to discover the exact tours and trips available to families were unsuccessful. The Line certainly does make them sound exciting, but since AK Fam just returned from a cruise and has some idea of most of these excursions, we are a bit wary of the Disney folks’ ability to offer such trips for the entire age range of most families. But we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, and maybe, just maybe, we’ll go along for the ride.

It’s worth checking out, though. Disney is famous for providing outstanding customer service coupled with non-stop magic for children. It might even be cheaper, in the long run, than making the trek down to California or Florida to the real Kingdom. Start by visiting the web site and asking some questions; the combo of cruising with Donald or the Mouse is awfully attractive…
