Two lovely ladies in Anchorage have created the perfect cubbyhole of tranquility for moms and dads to relax, unwind, and lose the agenda for a bit. Arctic Playgroundz, located in mid-town Anchorage, opened just this week and already is causing a buzz about their coffee bar and indoor playground. Shyla Dema and Jackie Shepherd, two moms with a pack of kids between them, know what it takes to keep both parents and kids occupied during the sacred coffee time. With a full-service espress and sandwich snack bar, kid friendly menu (PB&J, goldfish crackers, juice boxes, and cupcakes too), and cozy bistro and lounge seating, Arctic Playgroundz rates high on AK Fam’s best of best in whole crew entertainment.
Shyla and Jackie decorated the joint with furniture and play equipment built out of warm, european-style wood, and subtle paint colors that not only sooth the scattered mind, but keep the atmosphere subtle without seeming stuffy. Parents and caregivers can sink into one of the comfy couches, latte in hand (in a real mug, no less), and view their kids from every corner of the facility. Magazines adorn the wooden tables, and a water bar sits close by to whet a kid’s whistle from all that running around, dressing up, and playing house.
With 2,000+ square feet of play space, kids will not be bumping into each other as they survey the scene from atop the curly slide and fort, and parents will be pleased to note the availability of seating all around the space. There’s even wireless access, so you can check your email if you are an out-of-town visitor looking to check in.
Playgroundz is open Mon-Fri 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Sat from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., and can make arrangements for private functions. Call Shyla and Jackie at 907-563-PLAY for more information and be sure to check out their Web site. It’s chock full of stuff going on.
Finally, a place where we can all just get along! I love it.
