If I happened to be a government official, I’d start tomorrow with a proclamation:
“Whereas, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Alaska and Washington is the coolest organization around,
Whereas, their efforts to provide meaningful experiences for children with life-threatening illnesses and result in sparkling eyes, gleeful hugs, and incredible journeys,
Whereas, the community of Alaska stands by, on a moment’s notice, to help children and their families achieve these dreams,
I hereby declare Wish Week 2013 OPEN FOR BUSINESS!”
Like it? I just made that up. But what I didn’t make up was the fact Wish Week 2013 is indeed happening Monday through Friday of this week, plus the fact Alaskans are an incredible bunch of folks who have stepped up to support these families, and the organization, in so many ways.
As you may of heard on the Alaska Travelgram Show a few weeks ago, Wish Week is a time to double the efforts of the Alaska region of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, though awareness, fundraising, and a whole lot of fun. This year AKontheGO is thrilled to be on board for support of achievements past, present, and future.
On Tuesday, KTUU Channel 2 and Alaska Airlines are partnering together for the annual Wishes in Flight telethon, happening live from 5 a.m.-7 p.m. Yours truly will be at the Alaska Airlines HQ at 5 a.m. to start answering phones, and I expect every one of you who own miles on Alaska Airlines, Delta, United, or US Airways to consider a pledge. ANY amount is the right amount – from 25 miles to 25,000 – it’s your call. So do call, 907-343-2996, and talk to me or one of the other volunteers who will be engaged in a coffee-fueled two hours of volunteering. Trust me, it’ll do your heart good.
85% of all wishes in Alaska center around the theme “I wish to go….” Wouldn’t it be marvellous if every kid, and their immediate family, had the chance? Make-A-Wish sends everyone, at no cost, to the destination of their dreams. Disneyland, Hawaii, to a dude ranch; the possibilities are endless, but only with your help.
Join me, and the thousands of AKontheGO’ers around the world who believe in the difference one wish can make! Make-A-Wish has a goal of 1.5 million miles by the end of the week, and I betcha Alaskans can get this done.
