Wait, I can almost see it from here; a pretty white plane with a blue tail waving madly from the sky. Today is the day jetBlue arrives in Alaska and adds itself to the list of carriers willing to transport people and goods to and from the 49th state.
AK Fam is packed and ready to climb aboard the late-night flight from Anchorage to Long Beach for what will surely be a party in the skies, thanks to jetBlue’s willingness to accommodate an upwardly mobile fam consisting of one child still is not aware of the Big Surprise.
Thanks again in part to jetBlue and their popular Vacations department, AK Kid will be playing in the Magic Kingdom this week, meeting his hero, Donald Duck, and all the Disney gang as we lounge about the Disneyland Hotel pool and original theme park. It’s nice to have a vacation all wrapped up in one place, we’re finding, and the jetBlue/Disney vacation package is no exception. Lodging, transportation, park passes, and flight are arranged through the helpful staff of jet Blue Vacations, who also, I might add, do trips to Walt Disney World as well.
jetBlue will be testing the friendly skies of Alaska now through the first week of September, and prices are still in the “Absolutely Fantastic” range with $174 one-way ANC-LGB. Southern California for under $400? True, readers, and from SoCal one can make arrangements for other worthwhile destinations to see the great USA this summer. New York (JFK), Chicago, Austin, D.C., Las Vegas, and Oakland (hello, San Fran!) are a sampling of options for travelers, not to mention connecting flights from LGB to the rest of California. Nice.
jetBlue also has partnerships with American Airlines, Lufthansa, and other international carriers, so if travel overseas is indicated, JetBlue might be able to score some points with their True Blue Program and partnership plan.
What do we get aboard this budget-in-the-skies airline? First Bag Free policy that says we don’t have to squeeze everything into a bulky carry-on; snacks ranging from Dunkin’ Donuts coffee (have you tried this yet, Alaskans?) to their TerraBlue chips; and Shut Eye service that hopefully will lull AK Kid to sleep for our 5+ hour flight southward. Leg Room? Let’s see when I squeeze my 5’8″ frame into the seats and I’ll report back to you.
AK Fam will be calling in from the Disneyland Hotel tomorrow, Tuesday, May 24 for the Alaska Travelgram Show. Expect to hear all about the Big Surprise from AK Kid, flight info from moi, and a relaxing sigh of contentment from AK Dad, who we’ll be lucky to drag from the pool in time for the show. 2-3 p.m. on KOAN 1020 AM and 95.5 FM.
