Here at AKontheGO we know moms and dads sometimes need a little fuel to keep up with their little (or not so little) ones. We have made close friends within Anchorage coffee circles, choosing shops that do not mind our kids’ chatter, activity, or choice of food item to spill on the floor. Yet, these businesses keep asking us back, and even show their appreciation for our patronage, so we’ll help them out this week, for a change.
So, in light of the fact that it is not at all light outside, and getting downright cold outside, let’s talk java, shall we? There are two fabulous Anchorage coffee shops/coffee companies helping chase the chill away this week with some special deals.
Kaladi Brother’s coffee is helping parents celebrate Halloween with an all-day costume party Friday, Oct.30 at the JL Tower at 3800 Centerpoint Drive (near 36th and C streets). All day kids and parents can come in costume to win door prizes, including a year of free steamers or hot chocolate, and possibly be chosen the new Prince or Princess of the Royal Court. Which Royal Court, you ask? Why, the 80’s Prom, of course! Kaladi’s staff have chosen a 1980’s Prom-themed day, with Polaroid photos of everyone, big hair, and I’m sure some interesting outfits. I’ll have to break out my magenta dress from the one and only Prom I ever attended and add Carhartts for an Alaskan effect. Kaladi’s is a wonderful company with strong ties to the community; give them some support on Friday. Visit their web site for more info.
Arctic Playgroundz, in between Benson and Northern Lights on Arctic Blvd, is also getting into the spooky spirit with a $1 off their normal $6 admission price this week, IF someone comes in costume. Not hard, as most kids want to wear their get-ups all the time. Or, at least, mine does. Jackie and Shyla are gearing up for some good times through Halloween. With the store’s extended hours on Tuesday and Thursday (open 8 a.m.-8 p.m.), a great menu for kids and grown-ups (we love the soup/grown-up grilled cheese combo), and even better play space, there are sure to be some worn out little goblins.
More Halloween activities coming your way on Fun Friday; don’t forget to check back tomorrow for adventures in Eagle River, Alyeska Resort, and even trick-or-treating with wild critters!
