This is the last weekend of the Anchorage Downtown Partnership’s Crystal Gallery of Ice competition, part of the annual Fire and Ice festivities. Those interested in Ice, Ice, Baby can head to Town Square Park between now and Sunday at 4 p.m. to see master carvers make wonders out of “Arctic Diamond” ice, straight from Fairbanks (the ice carving mecca of the U.S.).

AK Dad always makes tracks to see this festival and competition, mostly because he likes the power tools used by the artists. We also like to watch the ice skaters making some patterns of their own at the rink laid out just for their service. Bring your skates and join the fun.

I am in Salt Lake City airport at this very moment, missing my Alaskan wilderness and hoping for some icy fun this weekend myself, although temperatures in SLC rival ours today (high of 25).

There’s no place like home this weekend, and I intend to be a part of it. See you downtown!
