As long as we’re talking about skiing, and of course we are these days, we are happy to provide you all with a little listing of upcoming swaps where you and your ever-growing children can gear up for under a million dollars. We love these events; always fun, always exciting, and always where one can usually score some super great deals.
If you are a hard-core ski swapper, please disregard the following tips for successful and peaceful swap-shopping; for as I grow ever older and crankier, I am less likely to stand in line at 8 a.m. on a Saturday morning in order to secure the coolest of last season’s hot gear. So cover your ears.
Arrive about an hour before closing if you really want to grab the gear everybody else has pawed over. Sometimes, wonderful deals can be had, at wonderful prices to boot, because, really, the guy who just bought his new gear doesn’t want to haul the old gear home to show his wife. No, really, I know this.
If selling gear, do arrive early to drop it off, get it registered/priced, then go have coffee or breakfast before heading back for the super sale later. Don’t be confused, just do it.
Shopping for the kids? Try to take them with you. Yes, yes, we know taking the whole posse to a ski swap is akin to madness, but how will you ever know if one brand of ski boot fits your particular child without cramming his or her little tootsie in said boot? Same for jackets, pants, and the like. Pack a lunch or even the holy DVD player, and take ’em.
