Alaska Summer is Almost Over & Now is the Time to Save!

This is my favorite time of year in Alaska. The almost imperceptable trend of shorter days is mingled with changing landscape and a mad rush to squeeze in those last few family trips before (gasp!) school starts and snow flies. I love it.

What I love even more is the effort of Alaskan tourism companies to squeeze in as much revenue as they possibly can before the season ends (usually right after Labor Day weekend). Looking at numbers never benefitted tourists so much, and we should all take advantage of deals and specials and packages to ease our frazzled, summer-frenzied minds into another Alaskan autumn. Ahhhh-some.

Spencer Whistle Stop choo-choo. What fun!

The Great Alaska TourSaver coupon book is still chock-full of 2-for-1 specials all over Alaska, but some of these deals will be expiring come September, so it behooves one to start utilizing such incredible experiences NOW. Haven’t been on the Alaska Railroad, yet? Yikes, take the Coastal Classic to Seward and pay only for one adult instead of two (Expires 9/11). Or take the kids on the fantastic Spencer Whistle Stop trip (expires 9/9) and hike the wonderful trails in full view of a stunning glacial lake and mountain of ice. Perfect back-to-school activity!

AK Kid looks for the High One from McKinley Princess' DECK. Wow!

TourSaver also features great hotel deals, like one night free at the McKinley Princess Lodge, well-known by fans of AKontheGO for its incredible view of Denali from the Deck of Wonder (no, really, their deck is the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen). Hike the trails, perhaps take a speedy jetboat ride with Mahay’s JetBoat Tours (hurry, though, that boat ride deal expires 8/30), and relax in fine luxury. TourSaver is the best way to see Alaska, and don’t let the “tour” part fool you; residents would be crazy not to utilize the bounty of Alaskan fun inside its little blue exterior!

The deals continue with our friends at Kenai Fjords Tours and CIRI Alaska Tourism offering wonderful opportunities to combine their fabulous day cruise experiences with a little chill time down in Seward. In fact, what a great way to combine that train ride with a wildlife cruise on board a Kenai Fjords boat, then spend the night at the beautiful Seward Windsong Lodge. In full view of the Resurrection River and along Exit Glacier Road, Seward Windsong is a peaceful retreat after a busy day/week, and now through 9/14 you can take 10% off a cruise/stay package. You won’t want to forget about the award-winning Resurrection Roadhouse, either, where cuisine takes center stage (Oh, how I dream about their sweet potato fries). Kids are more than welcome at Seward Windsong; in fact, I also hear even more steps are underway by CIRI to ensure kids and parents have the best day ever when aboard a boat or in a restaurant. LOVE. IT.

I also uncovered a great drive/stay deal from our friends at Avis Alaska, who outfit AK Fam whenever we head up to Fairbanks. Partnering with Westmark Hotels, Avis is offering a Great Alaskan Room and Car Package deal in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, Sitka, and Skagway now through mid-September. Have company coming and want them to be a little, um, more independent? Show them the good folks at Avis and the great deal therein. Call 800-544-0790 or visit the Westmark and Avis websites for more info.

Everybody enjoys a little pampering at Alyeska Resort. Summer packages still available through September 12.

Want to slip away on a moment’s notice? Alyeska Resort is holding on to its Summer Family Package deal through September 12, and we think this is such a great deal for everyone. From $281/nt, your fam can snuggle into that famous Alyeska luxury, eat pizza in your room, watch a movie, AND eat breakfast, AND have a Tram ride. Incredible. If you line-item this out, it is way less than what you’d pay to try and ala’ carte this whole experience. Why not toast your family over a pepperoni pizza and celebrate another school year? Fun!

I always tell people to visit Alaska at the end of summer, and these specials are but one reason why….

Happy Monday, and happy deal-seeking!
