Still Plenty of Rondy During the Week
Did you Rondy this weekend? Did you join other AK Fams in the crush of people at the Carnival, on the sidewalks, and at the Parade? Perhaps no other place in America would one be sure to see such an assortment of characters, and what fun we had.
AK Dad was in charge of the camera this weekend, and he managed to capture a few shots of interesting sights and people beyond the usual. As is usual for him.
The arrival of Monday is no excuse to skip Rondy events, my friends. All though the hoopla of marching bands and running reindeer may be past, there are plenty of things to visit after school (my favorite time to do many activities around Anchorage).
Try the Alaska Railroad Depot down on 2nd Avenue, where intricate displays of model trains are on display, thanks to the Northern Lights Model Railroad Club. Kids love looking at tiny little trains, towns, and people. The place was simply packed over the weekend, but it might be nice to try a visit on a weekday.
Don’t forget the Golden Wheel Carnival, going on every day until shut down March 7. Opening at 2 p.m. during the week, it’s a perfect way for the kids to blow off some steam after school. Why not try a funnel cake for an after school snack? Park down by the Comfort Inn at Ship Creek and make your kids walk; it’ll do them good.
Need something indoors? Stop by the Mall at Sears and check out the perspectives from local photographers. AK Kid and I dropped in on Friday as organizers were setting up the displays and both of us were impressed.
Don’t forget to check out all daily events at the Fur Rondy web site
. Happy Monday!
