Fun Friday Means a Busy Weekend Ahead

There’s so much going on this weekend that I’m just going to list events suitable for families…from sled dogs to star gazing, it’s all happening. Take the fam out this weekend; outdoors, that is!
Friday Night: “Learn About the International Space Station” at Eagle River Nature Center. Teens/’Tweens welcome at this Jr. Astronomy lecture. 7 p.m. Free, $5 parking for non-members.
Saturday: “Winter Survival Skills” at Eagle River Nature Center. Kids in grades K-6 welcome to learn techniques for staying warm in the winter and starting a fire. Free, $5 parking for non-members. 2 p.m.
Saturday: “ExxonMobile Sled Dog Races” at Tozier Track (Tudor Road east of Lake Otis pkwy). 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Free. Check out some sprint mushing and meet the dogs after they race. Sponsored by Alaskan Sled Dog & Racing Assoc. Check out info here.
Saturday: “Fun Skate Day” at Westchester Lagoon. 1 p.m. Music and warming barrels make for some wintertime fun. Sponsored by Anchorage Parks and Rec. Free.
Sunday: ” How Woodpeckers Adapt” at Eagle River Nature Center. 2 p.m. How do they peck at trees without getting a headache? Families. Free, $5 parking for non-members.
Sunday: “Ski 4 Women” at Kincaid Park. Calling all moms, daughters, granddaughters, aunties and friends to join in a wildly popular event on Superbowl Sunday. Funds raised go towards programs for domestic abuse survivors and their children. All ages/abilities welcome. Races, costumed ski. Starts at 10:30 a.m. Free, donations welcome.
