Here’s Your Chance to Snowshoe The Garden

Snowshoeing is fun at the Alaska Botanical Garden
Remember back in December when AK Fam took a little jaunt through the Alaska Botanical Garden and reported back on its delightful atmosphere and wonderful trails? Well, golly, now your family can join a guided snowshoe tour of the Garden this weekend, where not only will you become familiar with the trail system that encompasses the fenced-in property, but also will receive assistance in identifying the many trees that call the Garden home.
Winter is a lovely time to learn tree I.D.; just tell the kids they can wow their friends (and their friends’ parents) with their inexhaustable knowledge of fauna in Alaska. As the daughter of a forester, I can say that a kid who can identify trees without the leafy green of summer is a cool kid, indeed.
So, if your family decides to partake in a little afternoon hike with the kiddos, meet at the Alaska Botanical Garden a bit before 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6. Bring your own snowshoes (look at REI for great deals on kids’ snowshoes that don’t cost a bundle), warm clothing, snacks and drinks for the kids, and be ready to have a great time. The hike is $5 for non-members of AK Botanical, Free for members. The Garden is located at 4601 Campbell Airstrip Road, just off Tudor and right behind the Fire Station and Benny Benson School.
