Yippee! AKontheGO is now part of the weekly Alaska Travelgram show on KUDO AM 1080!

Hey, everyone! We are incredibly excited to announce that each Tuesday afternoon AKontheGO will be on KUDO AM 1080 in Anchorage (KXLJ 1330 in Juneau) with Scott McMurren as Official Co-Host of the Alaska Travelgram show.

Get ready to play radio each week and learn about travel deals, hot spots, and our fav family activities in Alaska. Want to be part of the fun? Tune in online or via the AM dial, and let us know how we’re doing.

Hopefully I’ll figure out how to work the whole Podcast thing (I’m not ashamed to admit it), and we’ll get previous shows on the web site so you, too, can listen and learn about the great state of Alaska.

This Tuesday, July 20, we’ll be talking with Jeanine Amon, world-explorer and current sailor aboard the Kaisei, a huge four-mast ship slated to depart for the Northern Pacific Gyre; that huge vortex of man-made trash/plastic/crapola floating around the ocean. Why? Where did she ever get that idea? How can we educate our young people about this hunk of gunk? Tune in at 2 p.m. and find out.

In the meantime, a big AKontheGO THANK YOU to Mr. Scott and his band of Travelgrammers, who have supported our venture to be the most informed family travelers to ever drive the highways and biways of the 49th state.

Cheers to you!

Alaska Travelgram Does the Deals

Erin Kirkland

Well, he doesn’t do the deals, he just lists them, so I don’t have to. Who am I talking about? My travel bud Scott McMurren, that guy I’m allowed to play radio with every Tuesday on KUDO AM 1080. Scott has this thing about low airfares and finding the best of the best for his Alaskan cohorts, who would be the rest of us. Yesterday he put out a whole list of really, really low airfares on his web site AlaskaTravelgram.com, and my goodness, these are smoking hot deals.

Here’s just a small sampling of the bounty:

Anchorage to Minneapolis: $304 RT all-in (fees, taxes, your first-born, everything)

Anchorage to Denver: $376 RT all-in

Anchorage to Portland (our fav): $400 RT all in. No kidding.

Scott says the best travel days are T/W/Sa, and his helpers at US Travel are on the ball with finding the best seats in the aircraft at these prices, so if you have trouble, call them at 561-2434 or 800-544-2217.

It’s also not too early (although I’m fighting the feeling) to be thinking about Christmas gifts for those difficult-to-buy-for people in your life. Here’s a thought. Consider the Great Alaskan Tour Saver or Seattle Tour Saver, each chock full of 2 for 1 deals in either Alaska or greater Seattle. 130 trips in each little gold mine of a book, all tried and true activities guaranteed to be a ton of fun. So visit their web site here to prepare for the 2011 release in the late fall months.

AK Kid and I had a fabulous day in the Yahoo Mat-Su area of Wasilla yesterday, traipsing about and enjoying some sunshine. Look for our blog post on KTUU’s GoToAK.com site tomorrow; it just might make you want to jump in the car with the kids.

Ciao!
